Tano North Municipal, with its capital at Duayaw-Nkwanta, is one of six municipalities and districts in Ahafo Region, upgraded to municipal status in 2018. It covers a total land area of 876 square kilometres, about 10.3 percent of the Ahafo Region's land area, and shares boundaries with Sunyani West District, Sunyani Municipal, Asutifi North, Tano South Municipal, Asutifi South, and Ahafo Ano North. According to the 2021 Census, the Municipality has a population of 93,838, comprising 16.6 percent of the Ahafo Region's population, with a growth rate of 1.4 percent. The dominant soil, forest ochrosols, supports cocoa, coffee, oil palm, plantain, maize, citrus, and vegetables, and the district's Birimian geology carries gold deposits around Yamfo, Tanoso, Afrisipa, Terchire, and Adrobaa.
