Atwima Mponua District lies in the south-western part of Ashanti Region, covering a land area of approximately 1,883.2 square kilometres - 7.7 percent of the region and its second largest district. It shares boundaries with Amansie West District to the south, Ahafo Ano South to the north, Atwima Nwabiagya to the east and Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai to the west. The district had a population of about 119,180 in 2010, projected to 126,894 in 2017, and is predominantly rural, with 87.6 percent of the population in rural localities. The capital is Nyinahin, about 45 kilometres from Kumasi on the Bibiani-Kumasi Highway; the economy is agrarian, employing about 79.2 percent of the economically active population in agriculture.
