Old Tafo Municipal, whose capital is Old Tafo, lies in the Ashanti Region, bordering Kwabre East to the north, Kumasi Metropolis to the south and east, and Suame to the west. It has a total land area of approximately 31.13 square kilometres and lies within the plateau of the south-west physical region, at an elevation of 250 to 300 metres above sea level. The 2021 Population and Housing Census recorded a population of 114,368, comprising 59,282 females (52 percent) and 55,086 males (48 percent), with a projected population of 120,910 by 2025 at an intercensal growth rate of 1.2 percent. The Municipality lies within the moist semi-deciduous forest zone and is completely urbanized, with no major forest reserve remaining.
