Sekyere Kumawu lies in the north-eastern Ashanti Region, bordering Sekyere Central, Sekyere Afram Plains, Asante Akim North, Sekyere East, Mampong Municipal, and Afigya Sekyere. It covers 576.58 square kilometers, about 6.2 percent of the region's land area, with roughly 70 percent Guinea savannah and 30 percent semi-deciduous forest. The Ghana Statistics Service records the district's population at 64,394 (48 percent male, 52 percent female), with 53.5 percent urban, concentrated in Kumawu, Bodomase, Oyoko, Dadease and Besoro. Agriculture is the backbone of the district's economy, and Kumawu is the administrative capital.
