Agona East District, in the eastern corner of the Central Region, shares boundaries with the Agona West Municipal Assembly to the south-west, Awutu Senya District to the east, Gomoa East District to the south-east, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa and Ajumako-Enyan Essiam Districts to the west, and the West Akim and Birim South District Assemblies to the north. The plan records an estimated population of 98,324 (50,974 females and 47,479 males; Population and Housing Census, 2021). The district is mainly agrarian, with over 50 percent of the population engaged in agriculture and major cash crops including cocoa, coconut, citrus, oil palm, cassava, and maize. Agona Nsaba, the district capital, lies within the forest belt of Ghana, about thirty-five kilometers north of Winneba.
