Kwaebibirem is one of the thirty-three districts in the Eastern Region, with Kade as its capital. The Municipality was carved out of the former West Akyem District under Legislative Instrument 1425 in 1988 and was constituted as Kwaebibirem Municipal Assembly under LI 2270 in November 2017. It shares boundaries with Atiwa to the north, Birim North to the north-west, Akyem Mansa to the south-west, and Denkyembour District to the south, and covers a land area of 803.47 square kilometres within the semi-deciduous forest zone. According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, the population was 121,698, comprising 61,588 females (50.6%) and 60,110 males (49.4%); agriculture is the main economic activity, and the Municipality is a leading producer of palm oil.
