Yilo Krobo Municipality lies in Ghana's Eastern Region, with Somanya as its capital. It covers an estimated area of 805 square kilometres, bounded in the north and east by Lower Manya Krobo Municipality and Upper Manya Krobo District, in the south by Akwapim North Municipality and Shai-Osudoku District, and in the west by New Juaben South, Okere District and Fanteakwa District. The area is predominantly mountainous, with the Akwapim Ranges creating an undulating landscape and heights ranging between 300 and 500 metres above sea level. The municipality has a projected total population of 128,167, and the largest occupational category among the employed population is Skilled Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Workers (33%), followed by Service and Sales (29%).
