Afadzato South District lies in the middle belt of Volta Region and shares boundaries with the Republic of Togo, Ho West District to the southeast, South Dayi District to the southwest, Hohoe Municipal to the north, and Kpando Municipal and North Dayi District to the northwest. It covers a land area of 553.0 square kilometres, about 3.06% of Volta Region's land size, and lies in the forest-savannah transitional ecological zone; Mount Afadzato, the highest mountain in Ghana at 880m, lies within the district. The 2010 Population and Housing Census recorded a population of 95,030, projected to 104,894 for 2014. Major economic activities include agriculture and food processing, hospitality, and tourism, and the district's capital is Ve-Golokuati.
